Rusagrotrans says to buy 500 hopper cars from UWC in 2021
MOSCOW, Aug 24 (PRIME) – Russia’s largest grain and bulk agricultural cargo operator Rusagrotrans, part of Demetra-Holding, will buy 500 hopper cars for grain transportation from United Wagon Company until the end of 2021, the company said on Tuesday.
The new carriages are equipped with a high loading capacity of 76.5 tonnes and increased body volume of 101 cubic meters.
“These carriages should significantly boost mechanization of the loading and unloading processes, and ensure safety of the transported cargo,” the company said.
Alexei Gribanov, first deputy general director of Demetra-Holding, said the companies intend to develop the routing of rail shipments of grain actively.
“In 2021 alone, transportation by direct shipment routes in the company increased from 257,000 tonnes to 1.1 million tonnes. Maintaining the growth rate will require modernization of the rolling stock, digitalization of services and synergy with the other companies of the holding,” Gribanov said.
UWC is Russia’s largest freight car producer. The holding unites wagon building enterprises, transport and leasing companies, wagon repair enterprise, research, training and service centers.
